“A look over the world”: the fourth edition of the Med-Or Day

The Foundation’s annual event was held on 24 July in Rome, three years after the birth of Med-Or, with the title “A look over the world. The Sistema Italia, the Mediterranean, Africa: The Mattei’s Plan”

On 24th July the Med-Or Day – the annual event of the Med-Or Foundation, now at its fourth edition – was held in Rome. At the Med-Or Day 2024 “A look over the world. The Sistema Italia, the Mediterranean, Africa: The Mattei’s Plan”, Roberto Cingolani, CEO and General Manager of Leonardo, and Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and General Manager of Fincantieri gave the opening speeches, while the event was concluded with the interview of Alfredo Mantovano, Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and Delegated Authority for the Security of the Republic, by Gian Marco Chiocci, Tg1 director.

This year’s Med-Or Day represented an opportunity to discuss the development prospects of the “Sistema Italia”, also in relation to the complex international context Italy and the major national companies are dealing with. Starting from these assumptions, it was also an opportunity to discuss the strategic importance of the Mattei’s Plan and the prospects it can open up for the country in relaunching its role as a key player in the Mediterranean region and Africa. The event which in addition to the speakers was attended by numerous top authorities and high-level representatives of Italian institutions and companies, also made it possible to sum up the Foundation’s activities after three years of existence and outline some development prospects for the coming years.

Indeed, as was stressed during the event, Med-Or is playing an important role in supporting Italy in its international projection. A role that today can certainly contribute even more to the country’s future and that, by expanding the Foundation’s capacity for involvement to new national partners, can strengthen its service mission to play a proactive role for Italy’s soft power abroad, through the levers of international cooperation, cultural promotion, training, and research.

Born three years ago with the mission of strengthening relations between Italy, Europe and the countries of the Broader Mediterranean, in this period Med-Or has initiated and supported numerous projects, in collaboration with Italian universities, and promoted several international events. Indeed, more than 600 training and educational support programmes were financed together with research projects, doctoral scholarships, and high-level specialisation courses. In addition, Med-Or has promoted programmes for the teaching of the Italian language, cultural diplomacy and cross-fertilization initiatives involving some 30 different countries and has also recently launched a series of activities in cooperation with the MUR, within the Mattei’s Plan. It has also taken part to joint research activities with international think tanks and research institutes in order to develop new prospects for scientific and socio-cultural cooperation.

In three years of activities, Med-Or has been able to develop several solid relations with many countries in the Broader Mediterranean area, and today makes these developed relations available to the country. In this framework, as stressed during the event’s speeches, the collaboration started within the Mattei’s Plan will also be a new challenge for Med-Or and an opportunity to be useful for Italy to promote its best resources.
