Med-Or Italian Foundation: cooperation agreement signed with the Democratic Republic of the Congo
The agreement, part of Med-Or’s broader engagement in Africa, establishes a framework for cooperation in the fields of training and strategic dialogue and aims to foster new joint initiatives between Italy and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
On 29 September, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed at the headquarters of Med-Or in Rome between the Foundation and the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The agreement was signed by Med-Or Chairman Marco Minniti and, on behalf of the Congolese Government, by Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, Francophonie and the Congolese Diaspora.
In particular, the agreement provides for the promotion of strategic dialogue, the organisation of seminars and joint initiatives, as well as the identification of projects aimed at strengthening sectoral capacities, training and cooperation.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is a particularly important partner on the African continent, both because of its significant economic potential and the role it plays in the broader regional context. With a population of over 100 million, the country holds a central position in the development of critical raw materials value chains and in processes related to the energy transition. The Democratic Republic of the Congo also has considerable agricultural potential, with more than 80 million hectares of arable land, offering significant opportunities for agricultural development, food security and the growth of agri-food value chains.
The agreement with the Democratic Republic of the Congo – which was included this year among the target countries of the Mattei Plan – forms part of Med-Or Italian Foundation’s broader engagement in Africa, aimed at strengthening dialogue with key countries across the continent and promoting initiatives in the fields of training, capacity building and strategic cooperation.
