Med-Or Monthly Africa Report November 2025
The second edition of the monthly report on Africa is now online
The November 2025 edition of the Med-Or Monthly Africa Report – a publication dedicated to providing strategic insight and expert analysis on the developments shaping Africa’s future – is now online.
This issue opens with a cross-cutting theme: Africa’s growing interest in nuclear energy as governments seek to close the continent’s vast energy gap and bring electricity to the 600 million people still without access. It examines both the economic promise and the geo-political risks of this shift – including the role of Russia and China, and the opportunities for European and Italian engagement through Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
The November report also looks at some of the continent’s most urgent crises and political turning points: Sudan’s war after the fall of El Fasher and the mounting humanitarian catastrophe; youth-led protests and a fragile military transition in Madagascar; the deteriorating security situation in the Sahel under military juntas despite their alliance with Russia; and the re-election of ageing incumbents in Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire, and what this means for democratic renewal, stability, and foreign influence.
This issue features contributions from leading experts, including:
- Giuseppe Mistretta – Editor’s Note; Security Situation in the Sahel Region Deteriorates Further
- Corrado Čok – Nuclear Ambitions in Africa
- Fouad Hikmat – The Fall of El Fasher: A Turning Point in Sudan’s War and a Grim Warning for What Comes Next
- Adi Guyo – The Role of Gen Z, the Army and the Situation in Madagascar
- Luciano Pollichieni – Africa’s Ageing Incumbents and the Struggle for Renewal: Lessons from Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon
Through this new series, Med-Or seeks to highlight how Africa’s economic and political transformation intersects with Italy’s strategic and cooperative interests - offering perspectives that inform dialogue, diplomacy, and partnership.
