Somalia is, however, grappling with several challenges that risk further heighten regional tensions, with implications for international stability. The initiative carried out by Med-Or is part of a broader commitment to strengthen relations with Africa, by consolidating stability, prosperity and cultural ties between Italy, Europe and the African continent.

Somalia has been a key recipient country of Med-Or support, including in scholarship for Somalis students currently undertaking university courses in Italy. In 2022, Med-Or Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Somalia in the fields of higher education, promotion of the Italian language, cultural and educational initiatives, health security, training in the justice sector, public administration and professional training.
