LATAM Observatory | Focus on the Legitimacy of Latin American Governments
The Latin America Observatory (LATAM) has published the report “Legitimidad”, the second thematic focus released within the Governance Series of the MEDOR Index of the LATAM Observatory.
The document analyzes the level of support and recognition enjoyed by the governments of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico among key actors within the political and social system—including business leaders, trade unions, the armed forces, religious institutions, legislative bodies, and territorial authorities. Through thematic maps and comparative assessments, the report identifies the main strengths and vulnerabilities of consensus-building structures across the different countries.
Institutional legitimacy emerges as a central variable for political stability, regulatory predictability, and governments’ capacity to implement reforms, with direct implications for the operational and decision-making environment of Italian companies active in Latin America.
