On 18 March 2026, the workshop “The Challenge for a New Lebanon: Risks and Opportunities” took place in Rome at the headquarters of the Med-Or Italian Foundation. The event was jointly promoted with the Center for Oriental Strategic Monitoring (COSMO) and held under the patronage of the Embassy of Lebanon in Italy and the Embassy of Italy in Lebanon.

The meeting, already scheduled prior to the outbreak of the new conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, provided an opportunity for discussion on this particularly delicate phase in Lebanon’s recent history and on the role that Italy may play for the country.

The event was opened by remarks from Marco Minniti, Med-Or Italian Foundation Chairman; Carla Jazzar, Ambassador of the Republic of Lebanon to Italy; Fabrizio Marcelli, Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Lebanon; and Bernard Selwan El Khoury, Director General of the Center for Oriental Strategic Monitoring. During the workshop, several areas of cooperation between the two countries were also explored, including the energy sector, cultural cooperation, and support for processes of economic reconstruction and institutional reform. Particular attention was also devoted to the role of the Lebanese diaspora, which numbers over 15 million people worldwide and represents a significant factor in the country’s stabilization.

Through initiatives of this kind, Med-Or reaffirms its commitment to fostering strategic dialogue and analyzing geopolitical dynamics across the broader Mediterranean region, thereby contributing to the development of new perspectives for cooperation and stability.
