"Afghanistan. Sharia. Women": Med-Or event featuring Maria Bashir
An event organized by the Med-Or Italian Foundation featuring Maria Bashir was held at the LUISS Guido Carli University campus on Viale Pola.

On Monday, May 26 at 3:00 PM, the event titled "Afghanistan. Sharia. Women. An Extraordinary Testimony" took place in the Sala delle Colonne at the LUISS Guido Carli campus on Viale Pola. The initiative was promoted by the Med-Or Italian Foundation in collaboration with the LUISS School of Government.
The meeting offered a moment for reflection on the condition of Afghan women under Taliban rule and the resilience of those who continue to fight for justice, even in exile.
The event opened with welcoming remarks from Professor Gaetano Quagliariello, Dean of the LUISS School of Government. This was followed by addresses from Marco Minniti, Chairman of the Med-Or Italian Foundation, by lawyer Federica Mondani, advisor to the Minister of Defense, and Maria Bashir, the first woman to serve as Provincial Chief Prosecutor in Afghanistan.
A symbolic figure in the struggle for women's emancipation in one of the world's most challenging contexts, Maria Bashir has devoted her life to defending women's rights, openly defying the Taliban regime. An internationally renowned magistrate, she continued her educational work even during times of repression, providing clandestine education to young girls. Forced into exile following the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, she now lives between Italy and Germany and remains active as a human rights advocate and a global reference point for the promotion of dignity and equality.
The event offered a unique opportunity to hear the personal testimony of a woman who, with courage and determination, has defied fear to give a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves.
