Med-Or: Launch of the project “Geopolitics, Technologies, and Security in the Mediterranean”
The project will be carried out by the Med-Or Italian Foundation in collaboration with the Luiss School of Government, within the framework of the “Geopolitics and Technology” grant program promoted by the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation and the CSF Foundation. With the kick-off meeting held on Wednesday, 12 November, at the Med-Or headquarters, the research and training activities officially began and will continue until 2026.
The presentation meeting for the research and training project developed by the Med-Or Italian Foundation, in collaboration with Luiss SOG, entitled “Geopolitics, Technologies, and Security in the Mediterranean: Evolution and Global Security Challenges in the Enlarged Mediterranean amid Geopolitical Competition and Technological Revolution. What Prospects for Italy?” was held on Wednesday, 12 November. The project, which aims to analyze Euro-Mediterranean strategic dynamics through a multidisciplinary approach—with particular attention to the interconnections among technological innovation, security, and geopolitics—is part of the “Geopolitics and Technology” grant program promoted by the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation and the CSF Foundation.
The meeting marked the official launch of the project’s activities, particularly the research component, through the presentation of the guidelines and the sharing of the initial work stages among the participating researchers.
In its initial phase, the project foresees the production of six papers, organized into three highly topical thematic areas: trans-Mediterranean connectivity; security and energy transition; non-conventional threats. The research activity will be further developed through three academic workshops and will culminate in a final scientific publication that will collect the findings and reflections emerging from the project and from the various public events scheduled for 2026.
Coordinated by the Med-Or Italian Foundation and carried out in collaboration with the Luiss School of Government, the project seeks to contribute substantively to strategic analysis and in-depth reflection on issues of key importance for Italy’s national system and its international projection, within a context of global competition and emerging challenges, with particular attention to the evolving security environment and the role of new technologies in shaping geopolitical equilibria.
