Med-Or Monthly Africa Report | March 2026

The fifth edition of the monthly report on Africa is now online

The March 2026 edition of the Med-Or Monthly Africa Report – a publication prepared by the Med-Or Africa team dedicated to providing strategic insight and expert analysis on the developments shaping Africa’s future – is now online.

Starting with this issue, the newsletter opens with an editor’s note and a concise one-page overview of the most relevant developments across the continent over the past month. This is followed by a more focused section that examines selected themes in greater depth.

This month’s edition devotes particular attention to the implications for Africa of the war in Iran. As tensions disrupt energy markets and Gulf countries suffer retaliation, the African continent is increasingly exposed to their economic and geopolitical fallout.

One implication from the closure of the Strait of Hormuz it is the renewed – and perhaps even greater – strategic relevance of the broader Red Sea and Gulf of Aden region.

Our March Newsletter brings together analysis from:

• Corrado Čok on Africa’s emerging economic and energy storm triggered by the Gulf crisis

• Umberto Tavolato on how the Iran conflict could reshape dynamics in the broader Red Sea

• Chepkorir Sambu on the dramatic plight of African workers trapped in the Middle East’s crossfire

• Luciano Pollichieni on South Africa’s delicate foreign policy balancing act amidst the Iran-US conflict

• Fouad Hikmat on the impact of the current Middle-East War on Sudan
